What we have already said in passing in the previous chapter applies to FDI’s positioning in the international sphere. In the first ten years of their existence, FDI’s search for identity was an ongoing process. On the one hand, there were repeated references to continuity with the perennial values of the Italian right (that is, the variety of right-wing sentiment whose progenitor was Giorgio Almirante. On the other hand, there were major policy changes dictated by the changing political context, by opportunities that occurred along the way and by the appearance of interlocutors who, from time to time, appeared to be useful in assisting the party’s rise and the development of its objectives.
