In an era of pop politics, it is not surprising for a party identified almost completely with its leader that the aforementioned Io sono Giorgia is, at one and the same time, an autobiography, a collective biography of the Atreju generation and a statement of FDI’s values. It seems deliberately designed to serve, simultaneously, these three purposes—while also signalling that the leader in whom everything has ultimately been centralized is not a single woman in charge. Behind her, in the background, stands a long history and a close-knit community of patriots. The famous cry, “I’m Giorgia, I’m a woman, I’m a mother, I’m a Christian”, uttered in Piazza San Giovanni on 19 October 2019 at the concluding rally of the Orgoglio Italiano! (Italian Pride!) demonstration, is framed and re-asserted in the book as “God, the Motherland and Family”, as a manifesto of the national-conservative right.
