Non-Governmental Organizations Promoting Human Rights of People with Lived Experience of Mental Health Conditions
摘要
This chapter describes two organizations working to promote human rights of people with mental illness, as a reminder that there are many similar organizations doing extremely valuable work which is not very well known. The Global Mental Health Peer Network (GMHPN) is a peer-led organization dedicated to empowering individuals with lived experience of mental health conditions through mentorship and support. With a unique Experts by Experience Consultancy Services unit, GMHPN ensures diverse perspectives in its service delivery. By aligning with international human rights instruments and global mental health strategies, GMHPN strives to destigmatize mental health and reduce discrimination. In Egypt, the Egyptian Society for the Rights of People with Mental Illness has played a vital role in advocating for mental health rights, promoting community integration, and combating stigma. Through collaboration with international entities and local stakeholders, the society continues to prioritize advocacy and awareness to improve the quality of life for individuals affected by mental illness in Egypt.
