Sustainable Technologies for Biofuel Production

However, the increase in population makes it necessary to search for different biofuel production alternatives that will allow us to move towards less dependence on fossil fuels and reduce the environmental threats they cause. This chapter addresses the various technologies that exist to produce biofuels and discusses their sustainability. It is known that producing biofuels by different methods can mitigate the adverse effects on the environment. However, this must be demonstrated through sustainability analysis and addressed in the broad sense of the word “sustainable”, which involves aspects of production costs and their relationship to economic viability, environmental impacts associated with biofuel production, as well as working conditions and remuneration of workers and the impact on society due to their use.
