Microbial Engineering to Design Fuel Production

摘要

The rapid increase in population growth has affected the environment in many aspects; one of the aspects is the depletion of renewable sources due to the overconsumption of resources for the population’s survival. To overcome this problem research has been focused on finding a solution that is less expensive, more productive, and eco-friendly. One such solution is to use the microorganism available in abundance in the environment for the production of renewable resources. Biofuel production using microorganisms contains the same properties as petroleum-based fuels and is economically beneficial to society. Biofuel can be produced by utilizing biomass of biological waste or microalgae. In this chapter, we discuss how biofuel can be produced by exploring microorganisms through engineering methods by utilization of their genetic materials. Furthermore, we will discuss the latest techniques used for the modification of microbes and will discuss recent research and development in biofuel production.
