Louver of Coconut Fiber and Sawdust Bonded with Epoxy Resin

This research focuses on a circular economy process that uses agroforestry residues to form a sustainable material that reduces the direct incidence of ultraviolet rays on buildings. This research aims to manufacture a louver using coconut fiber and sawdust, agglomerated with epoxy resin, to achieve a light, resistant, and thermally insulating composite. For its characterization, were elaborated four prototypes with different dosages. Prototype 3 (15% coconut fiber, 38% sawdust, and 47% resin) has a MOR of 48.33 kg/cm2 and MOE of 12.54 kg/cm2; Prototype 4 (38% coconut fiber, 15% sawdust, and 47% resin) achieved a compressive strength of 68.57 kg/cm2. The last specimen has a thermal conductivity value of 0.083 W/m-K. These results prove that it is feasible to manufacture a composite for buildings by combining agroforestry residues in a polymeric matrix.
