Methodological Application Proposal for Energy-Electrical Evaluation of National Polytechnic School in the Context of a Sustainable Campus

The work below presents a methodological application proposal for electrical energy evaluation of universities and polytechnical schools in the context of what is required by a sustainable campus. The National Polytechnic School-EPN (Ecuador) has been taken as a case study. First, a diagnostic study is done. For the analysis of the current situation of this Polytechnic Campus, are considered five indicators based on the guidelines given by UI GreenMetric. Those indicators are the use of energy-efficient loads, commissioning of smart buildings, renewable energy sources installed on the university campus (number), electricity consumed, and the ratio of renewable energy production divided by the energy usage per year. Second, considering de previous analysis, an improvement proposal is presented, considering de same indicators. This proposal is focused on a technical analysis for the implementation of a photovoltaic generation system on the campus. Finally, the analysis of the results is made, where it’s presented a comparison between the two scenarios, means, the current one and the proposed one, where it can be seen the potential benefits of introducing the proposed recommendations, especially those related to renewable energies.
