Michael R. Kremer (1964–)

Michael Kremer taught in the Economics Department at Harvard University from 1999 to 2020. Before that he taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and after that, he joined the University of Chicago. In 2019, he was awarded—jointly with Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo—the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. Kremer has made significant contributions to a wide range of fields within economics, with a high concentration of work in economic growth and in development economics. His experimental work in development economics has been influential in education, health and agriculture, and in transforming how applied microeconomic research is done in development economics. Another influential strand of his research is on advance market commitments for vaccines. Complementing his research, Kremer has co-founded a range of institutions, both in the research and policy worlds.
