Metastatic Bone Disease: Spine

Metastatic disease in the spine encompasses a heterogeneous group of tumors which cause a wide variety of clinical scenarios involving degrees of pain, mechanical instability, and neurologic injury. Ideal treatment plans are developed by a multidisciplinary team and are best tailored to the individual patient by consideration of spinal stability, neurologic status, and systemic status of disease. Treatment modalities are continuously evolving but include systemic medical therapy, conventional radiotherapy and radiosurgery, percutaneous and minimally invasive surgery, and traditional open surgery.
