Role of Mosque Management Committee in Empowering the Muslim Community in India: A Systematic Review

The Muslim community in India constitutes one of the largest religious minorities in the world. In this diverse and dynamic socio-cultural landscape, Mosque Management Committees (MMCs) play a pivotal role in facilitating community empowerment and development. This systematic review aims to comprehensively analyse the functions and impact of MMCs in India. Throughout history, mosques have served as not only places of worship but also as centres of learning, social interaction, and communal decision-making within the Muslim community. Several studies are conducted on the role of the Mosque and NGO in religious practices as well as community initiatives. But there is a notable lack of research on the role of Mosque Management Committee in socio-economic development of the Muslim community in Dakshina Kannada district. Muslims in India are considered a minority, and there's a need to explore how mosque management committees can contribute to their well-being. A significant Muslim population in the region, this research presents an untapped area of study and holds substantial potential for addressing socio-economic development through these committees. The analysis reveals that MMCs are integral to fostering social cohesion, providing educational opportunities, and addressing the economic challenges faced by the Muslim community. Furthermore, they act as conduits for interfaith dialogue, promoting harmony and inclusivity. This systematic review not only contributes to a better understanding of MMCs but also calls for renewed attention to their vital role in the holistic development of the Muslim community in India.
