Only the very few of us who practice space law academically are lucky enough to be able to build on sometimes even decades-old traditions and institutions. But is that really luck? Is it not perhaps the case that what is fascinating and exciting in academic work is pioneering? To identify, conceptualize, and institutionally build a subject, a field, perhaps even an entirely new branch of our subjects? Our jubilarian, Professor Christian Brünner, has seized exactly this good fortune by the scruff of the neck and established Space Law and Space Policy at the University of Graz and, moreover, in Austria from scratch. This is a wonderful and fulfilling achievement, for which we warmly congratulate Professor Brünner today during his recently celebrated 80th birthday.
