Smart Geo-Reference System for the Prediction of the Mercalli Scale for Hurricanes in Los Cabos Area an Approximation of a Risk Atlas

摘要

In this work, a smart system was developed to estimate the damage caused by hurricanes in Cabo San Lucas, based on physical and social vulnerability indicators obtained from the “Atlas of Risk and Vulnerability to Climate Change of the Municipality of Los Cabos, BCS”. The system uses specific criteria to evaluate the potential destructive effects of hurricanes, considering the availability of relevant information and data. The values ​​obtained were normalized to allow comparisons and weights assigned according to their relevance to the calculations. The integration of these indicators and their precise weighting provides a complete estimate of impact. In addition to providing a damage estimation method, an intuitive and accessible visual Geo-Referencing approach was developed. The Mercalli scale was adapted and a graphic environment was used to facilitate understanding of the implications and consequences of natural events. This approach offers an effective tool to more clearly assess and explains the consequences of hurricanes. In summary, the system combines vulnerability indicators, information from the “Atlas of Risk and Vulnerability to Climate Change of the Municipality of Los Cabos, BCS” and a visual representation based on a georeferenced system and the proposal to adapt the Mercalli scale to estimate damage caused by hurricanes. The resulting tool provides a detailed and understandable assessment of the impact and potential consequences of these natural events. With this approach, greater precision in damage estimation and a more complete understanding of its effects is achieved. The developed system constitutes a valuable contribution to addressing the challenges of managing and mitigating the impacts of hurricanes in the region.
