The Alien Species Ulva ohnoi: New Geographical Record from the Northern Coast of Tunisia, DNA Barcoding, Nutrient Analysis and Biological Activities

The present study dealt with the molecular identification and the biological activities of Ulva ohnoi. It contributes to fill a gap of knowledge about the micronutrient composition of this non-indigenous species. Fresh alga was used for the molecular identification and DNA barcoding of tufA sequence. Antimicrobial and algicidal activities of U. ohnoi organic extracts were determined. Phenolic content and biochemical composition have been analyzed. DPPH and the total antioxidant capacity were evaluated. Metabarcoding DNA analysis confirmed U. ohnoi identity. Ulva’s extract has antimicrobial activity and significant algicidal activity. Genomic identification and bio-potential were highlighted and show that U. ohnoi can be a source of some essential nutrients for human health.
