摘要

PET-clay material, as a new low-cost adsorbent, was tested for Cd(II) ions removal from aqueous solutions. The influence of contact time and Cd(II) ion concentration was evaluated by batch adsorption technique. The experimental results indicate the adsorption process reached equilibrium in 60 min for an initial ion concentration of 22 mg Cd(II)/L. A quantitative description of the kinetics of adsorption processes was performed, and the experimental results showed that the pseudo-second-order kinetic model describes the kinetics of adsorption processes with greater accuracy \(\left( {R^{2} \cong 1} \right)\) . Langmuir and Freundlich models were used to fit the equilibrium adsorption data and the statistical parameters depict a better and satisfactory correlation for the Langmuir model. The result of this study suggests that PET-clay adsorbent is a promising alternative for the removal Cd(II) ions from industrial effluents.
