Knowledge and Practice of Healthcare Workers Participating in Covid-19 Prevention and Control in Vietnam in 2021

A cross-sectional descriptive study of 1603 health workers (including 1148 medical staff and 455 preventive medicine staff) directly involved in the prevention of Covid-19 in four provinces in Vietnam was conducted in 2021, by using the face-to-face interview toolkit. The majority of study subjects participated in Covid-19 prevention and control duty (80.5%) and had contact with Covid-19 patients (72.7%). The risk of daily exposure to Covid-19 was 83.5%. The average age of health workers was 34.8 ± 7.69 years old, and the mean labor age was 9.9 ± 6.99 years. 27.8% of the health workers were doctors, and 70.2% were nurses. During the pandemic, study subjects had to work on average 10.5 ± 3.29 a day. Over 80% of healthcare workers had correct and sufficient knowledge about the transmission route, symptoms, and prevention of Covid-19 infection. Importantly, over 80% of healthcare workers used appropriate PPE to prevent Covid-19 infection and practiced 5K and workplace hygiene. This study has provided us with important insights into the most sensitive healthcare workers during the 2021 Covid-19 outbreak in Vietnam.
