Risk Assessment in Urban Area by Transport of Dangerous Goods

Risk problems constantly increase in relation to both the growth of vehicular traffic and the growth of dangerous materials transported. The general analytical risk’s formulation in a transport system is considered as a product of the probabilities related to: the occurrence of an accidental event; the vulnerability related to the resistance of the system by considering the effects potentially produced by the event; the exposure related to the amount of people and things present and potentially affected by the effects of the event. The risk calculation method, referred to the single element of the urban transport network, is proposed. To construct the risk map, the territory is discretized. The result obtained is important because it allows to associate a certain level of risk to each discretized element. It is therefore possible to build a thematic map that represents the different levels of local risk around the source of risk. The map makes it possible to identify the major criticalities at urban level.
