Ecofriendly Green Inhibitor from Chitosan/ZnO Nanocomposite (CS/ZnO) Against Aluminum Corrosion in 1 M Hydrochloric Acid Medium

Aluminum corrosion is one of the major difficulties confronting industries and other sectors, necessitating the development of solutions to mitigate the significant impact of this phenomenon. This study employed a chitosan/ZnO nanocomposite at various concentrations (200, 400, and 500 ppm) to suppress aluminum corrosion in 1 M HCl medium. The inhibitor efficiency of chitosan/ZnO nanocomposite was determined utilizing various electrochemical measurements, weight loss investigations, and surface analysis with scanning electron microscopy. Experimental studies showed that after 24 h, the inhibitory performance improved with inhibitor dosage to a maximum of 60.59% at 500 ppm. Furthermore, the inhibitor was found to be a mixed-type inhibitor of aluminum corrosion in HCl media. These results demonstrated the inhibitive performance of CS/ZnO nanocomposite on aluminum corrosion rate.
