Coastal Area of Cape Galata (Western Black Sea): Distribution of Physico-chemical Parameters Under Key Impacts on Seawater

Protecting water and ecosystems is vital to human survival. Particular focus is on the concerns about water that moves across national boundaries under host of impact factors and water-related risks we are facing today. As this is one of the core important issues, water resources management needs to be studied the shifts in the water environment and the dynamical processes in the coupled systems, to implement new improved approaches, leading to positive effect on the ecosystems, socio-environmental and economic benefits. Promoting to this important topic, research about distribution of seawater physico-chemical parameters in the coastal western area of the Black Sea in front of Cape Galata was performed in 2019. Ocean Data View and XLSTAT software were used. Unusually high SSS was ascertained in June. Considerable increase in SST has occurred in October. The distribution of nitrite nitrogen and phosphate phosphorus has indicated maximum concentrations at 1 mile offshore while nitrate nitrogen peak was at 5 miles in front of Cape Galata in June. The shifted distribution of nutrients has displayed maximum concentrations at 10 miles offshore and decreased levels in October. High SSS in June was owing to reduced river runoff. The increased autumn SST has indicated relationship to climatic events. The nutrients were under dominating influence of local or transboundary factors. The ascertained distribution of seawater physico-chemical parameters in the coastal western area of the Black Sea in front of Cape Galata under key impacts contributes to the management of the water resources which cross national borders—one of the most pressing problems of the global community.
