Deep-Sea Environmental Protection and Conservation Issues as Applied to the MAR Ecosystem

The chapter explores aspects of environment protection and conservation pertinent to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in the face of exploration activities for massive polymetallic sulphides and with respect to plans for future exploiration of the resource. Emphasis is given to the need to protect both biological diversity and geological formations.
