Differential Impacts of Dysfunction and Deviance

  • Roland E. Kidwell

摘要

The effects of deviant and dysfunctional behaviors on family firms as well as individuals, families, and external stakeholders are examined. The areas in which the impact of deviant and dysfunctional behaviors are discussed include firm performance, succession processes, governance, firm reputation, and business-family relationships. Family firms can be locked into a vicious circle of negative behaviors based upon the way that dysfunctional acts are managed within the firm; a circle that can end in dissolution of the firm and isolation from the family. However, constructive and strategic deviance offer opportunities for positive outcomes. The chapter discusses how the effects of deviance and dysfunction can do a family firm “good” and a society “bad”—and sometimes benefit both.
