Mechanical Reconfiguration of Circular Patch Antenna Using Metasurface for 5G Wireless Communications

摘要

In this chapter, the most important uses of metasurface in the field of antennas are proposed, and specifically in the configuration of the most important antenna properties, which are the operating frequency, the polarization, and the radiation pattern, we will be interested in exactly the reconfiguration of the radiation pattern of a circular patch antenna with a diameter of 6.4 mm (1.5λ0). This antenna is powered by a coaxial cable. The semi-circular planar metasurface is placed immediately on top of a planar circular patch, making it compact and low profile. When we rotate the metasurface around the center of the patch (source antenna), the antenna main lobe is directed to the desired directions. This antenna was created to operate in the frequency range around 30 GHz and is studied using CST Microwave Studio software. The results of simulation indicate that the proposed antenna is well-suited for the frequency range around 29.8 GHz (S11 = − 33.09 dB), with a maximum gain of 7.92 dBi.
