The Wheelers Adjust to the Ojibwe and Each Other

  • Nancy Bunge

摘要

Enduring below zero temperatures and limited supplies makes life at La Pointe difficult for the Wheelers, especially for Harriet who gives birth to a stillborn child their first year. But their shared optimism about their marriage proves valid. They educate each other. Eventually, she accepts Leonard’s faith that God shapes everything for the best which brings her peace. Simultaneously, Leonard learns to embrace the value of tolerance and sympathy from Harriet. And they both respect the Ojibwe.
