Nose Reconstruction Through Nasal Frame Distraction in Frontonasal Dysplasia
摘要
Frontonasal dysplasia is a rare disorder characterized by abnormal development of the head and face before birth. It is mostly inherited and caused by the ALX genes. Major physical characteristics may include widely spaced eyes (ocular hypertelorism); a flat and retruded broad nose; and/or a vertical groove down the middle of the face. The depth and width of the vertical groove may vary greatly. Surgery is aimed to correct the hypoplastic midfacial area, thereby improving the midfacial deficiency-related medical problems. Hypertelorism surgery and central midfacial advancement as well as nose reconstruction are possible treatment options. The surgical approach to reconstruct the midface and nose through a nasal frame distraction is described in detail. Nasal frame distraction osteogenesis was done as it allows large bone movements to be performed safely in young patients. The treatment is used for improving facial aesthetics and correcting airway obstruction owing to midface retrusion.
