Fronto-orbital Advancement in Non-syndromic Craniosynostosis Patients
摘要
Craniosynostoses are developmental anomalies that can be present as non-syndromic or syndromic diseases. Fusion of a single suture does not lead to a growth disturbance of the brain, as the skull expands in the direction perpendicular to the premature ossification suture. This leads to a defined skull morphology. Various skull appearances can be distinguished: trigonocephaly, scaphocephaly, brachycephaly and plagiocephaly. The primary surgical goal for the correction of the skull deformity is to expand the skull volume and to normalize skull anatomy. The kind of surgery is determined by the skull shape. The fronto-orbital advancement procedure is the classic operation to correct the skull. The most important aspects to perform such a procedure (indication, relevant anatomy, anaesthesia and possible complications) as well as the surgical approach are presented by describing all surgical steps in detail.
