Surgical Procedures in the Maxilla
摘要
Craniofacial malformations are often based in the maxillary region with an anatomically correct mandible position. Maxillary hypoplasia, maxillary retrognathism, and open bite situations are common findings. This chapter describes surgical procedures to treat dysgnathia with causes found in the maxillary region. Common aspects in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and surgical treatment planning are discussed including treatment goals, indications, and special anesthesiological aspects. The three most important procedures (surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion, LeFort I, and Zisser osteotomies) are displayed in detail along with a step-by-step description and photo documentation of the critical surgical maneuvers.
