The Use of Sonification in Data Analysis: A PsychoPy Training Test

Perception is a process that requires a lot of mental processing. It provides the means by which one’s concept of the surroundings is created and helps to learn from and interact with its environment. The compilation of previous studies throughout history has led to the conclusion that auditory performance improves when it is paired with visual stimulus and vice versa. Taking the previous consideration into account, the two aforementioned sensory pathways were considered to carry out a multisensory training test with the objective of achieving the participants’ familiarization with this type of signal detection technique. PsychoPy software was used to program visual and auditory stimuli in different blocks. From the results obtained it was confirmed that the participants improved their performance with ease in the detection of varied sound signals whenever these were accompanied by a related visual stimulus.
