Comparative Analysis in Medical Image Communication Services

In the medical field, PACS is responsible for producing and managing a significant volume of important information. These studies are evaluated by radiologists who have limited time for their analysis and interpretation. There are different methods to evaluate studies, that according to the intervention of radiologists, these can be classified in: manual (continuous participation), semi-automatic (only defining simple aspects) or automatic (not requiring human intervention) techniques. The idea is to develop an automated postprocessing technique for studies that meet certain characteristics, which will allow saving considerable time. However, to apply automated post-processing at a health center, it is necessary to determine which are the best alternatives to implement communication with PACS, as the tools have to be able to perform tasks of query, retrieval and storage of different kinds of registry. Therefore, the research work was divided in two. On one hand, the selection of the best communication tool with a medical image server, and on the other, the implementation of the selected tool for querying and retrieving studies. Three methods of communication were analyzed, of which DICOMWeb Protocol was chosen. This method has advantages in all the required aspects allowing access to the server quickly, easily and safely.
