Sport Tourism, Island Territories, and Sustainable Development: A Literature Review
摘要
This literature review examines the historical intersection of island territories, sport tourism, and sustainable development. The relationship between islands and tourism is a relatively modern phenomenon, with the focus on sport tourism at these sites an even more recent development. Most recently, sport tourism on island territories has been promoted as a vehicle for sustainable development. This development has witnessed an intentional diversification of sport tourism activities and events to combat seasonality, mass tourism, and the deleterious effects of overcrowding on the environment and local communities. This evolving relationship offers future potential in the planning and implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs), as articulated in the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda.
