Does Meditation Enhance Emotional Intelligence of Senior Leaders?
摘要
We report the results from an experimental study conducted to test the effect of meditation on emotional intelligence (EI) of senior leaders, and by implication their ability to enhance their performance as leaders. We tested six hypotheses linking meditation and EI, employing the 125-item Bar-On EQ-i instrument on 64 chief executive officers or people of that rank from firms registered in London, UK. The experiments were conducted for a consecutive period of 12 weeks using randomized, pretest/post-test control group experiment design. The findings show that meditation statistically significantly enhanced Intraperson Management, Interpersonal Management, Adaptability, Stress Management, and General Mood, the components of EI which are known to improve leadership skills in managers. Directions for further research are provided.
