Authentic Leadership

Although authentic leadership is a relatively new entrant to leadership literature, the roots of authentic leadership and authenticity are ancient. Authentic leadership describes a management style or type in which the leader is genuine, sincere, and true to self while leading others. Authentic leaders are self-aware, transparent in relationships, use balanced processing, and possess an internalized moral perspective. Authentic leaders use their inner compasses to inform daily actions, enabling them to earn the trust of followers, colleagues, and stakeholders, thereby creating approachable organizational environments and enhancing team performance. The authentic leadership style is beneficial for organizations because the actions of leaders agree with their words, values, and beliefs. Some of the benefits of authentic leadership include improved trust, performance, innovation and creativity, and more successful organizations.
