摘要

Leadership has been conceptualized and extensively researched since the early nineteenth century. During the Industrial Revolution, management capabilities drove efficiency standards and the distribution of labor tasks. Today’s technological advances and information-driven global markets have significantly changed the dynamics of industries. This sea change in globalization has required an expanded consideration of what leadership is and the essential skills a leader must possess. The paradigm of social networks has solidified technological integration into our everyday lives and influences a leader’s individual and organizational behavior. Effective leaders navigate their decision-making with a strong sense of self. The internal dynamics of a leader that motivate them to inspire and drive change are rooted in their identity. The Schematic Leadership Identity Model (SLIM) is a leadership assessment tool that strengthens leadership identity through self-discovery. SLIM uses a mixed-method approach to guide leaders through unraveling the core self. The SLIM framework offers guidelines and practices for leaders to explore their inter- and transgenerational history, memories, and influences in behaviors, values, attitudes, and beliefs. This framework helps leaders identify, acknowledge, accept, or remove traits and behaviors that do not align with how they see themselves while building a leadership schema reflective of their aspirational selves.
