The turn to the scholarly study of Religious Leadership at the turn of the century brought with it a renewed interest to explore and define Christian Leadership. Christian Leadership is a form of leadership that is based on the person, life, and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Research in Christian Leadership has been varied in scope, focus, and methodology. Research has been varied from historical, sociological, and contextual descriptions to attempts to define a proto-model. Little work has been done to synthesize the variety of and diversity of approaches and proposals offered. However, relative consensus has arisen during the last three decades of enquiry and the research suggests that Christian Leadership is at minimum (a) mimetic, (b) concerned with the correct use of power, (c) follower-centered, and (d) Christological. Christian leadership seeks to cultivate ethical values of truth, justice, compassion, and peace as it seeks to facilitate and promote personal, organizational, and societal flourishing.
