Community organizing as an overarching strategy or practice is a well-established, and yet evolving, global phenomenon. While people have always organized themselves, community organizing connotes a coming together to identify and solve a particular problem while also gaining collective power in the process. Community organizing activities are necessary components of societal movements and also rely on horizontal, or distributive, forms of leadership to bring about social change.
