摘要

Global food security is achieved only when all individuals, always, have physical, financial, and ready access to enough, safe, and nourishing food to suit their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. But food consumption is getting increasingly more than the rate it is being produced. So, there is a need to employ techniques which are either conventional or modern to avoid food insecurity. As one cannot reduce the consumption rate of food because of population rise, increasing food production is one of the solutions for achieving food security. The land available for farming must be utilized efficiently to shoot up food productivity even with limited resources. There are different farming practises such as intensive farming, extensive farming, subsistence farming, plantation farming, commercial farming, and mixed farming. Subsistence farming is one such method where farmers plant crops through which self-sufficiency is attained. They grow crops which are sufficient for their families and trade them in exchange for other crops. This is an age-old and efficient process through which food security can be achieved globally. There are different crops grown using subsistence farming such as sweet potato, maize, wheat, rice, legumes, corn, and millet.
