Recent Advances in Food Packaging for Shelf Life of Food

Both food processing and packaging are equally important for the good shelf life and quality of the product. Food standardization is also increasing with an increase in the demand for ready-to-eat (RTE) food. So, the requirement for advances in packaging is also increasing. This chapter focuses on the advances in food packaging including the function of packaging, available packaging materials, selection criteria for packaging materials, available packaging technologies (such as modified atmospheric packaging, aseptic packaging, active packaging, intelligent packaging, antimicrobial packaging), packaging systems for the novel processing treated food product, packaging for a different food product, and printing and sealing of packages. So, this chapter will help to decide the required packaging conditions and materials for specific agricultural commodities.
