Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Quality and Safety: A Deep Insight on the Benefits of an Organic Farming Approach
摘要
Organic farming approach has become a central focus as it offers an environment friendly cultivation method free from the application of synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Organic farming prioritizes soil health and biodiversity and aims to enhance the well-being of interconnected communities comprising humans, animals, plants, and soil microorganisms. Fresh fruits and vegetables cultivated through this method purport to have higher fruit quality in terms of firmness, total sugars, acidity, amino acids, volatile compounds, and sensorial attributes. Diminished pesticide residue, reduced nitrate contents, and avoidance of GMOs in organically produced fruits and vegetables, further ensures safe choice for consumption to consumers and supports environmental sustainability. Additionally, this produce contains superior phytochemicals and antioxidants thereby enticing a more health-conscious consumer demographic. Nevertheless, the microbiological integrity of the organic produce has raised apprehensions due to potential cross-contamination stemming from using organic fertilizers. These quality aspects of fresh fruits and vegetables are closely linked with farming practices. Henceforth, this chapter attempts to highlight the benefits of the organic farming approach with regards to fruit quality and overall safety. Through this work, a comprehensive elucidation of the multifaceted benefits inherent in adopting an organic cultivation approach is proffered, underscoring its contributions to the qualitative and nutritional dimensions of harvested produce.
