SPECT Radiopharmaceuticals

This chapter will outline the use of commonly used radiopharmaceuticals for SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). These agents provide the assessment of relative blood flow in various regions of the myocardium, by visualization of a radiopharmaceutical that is distributed throughout the myocardium in relation the coronary blood flow. Therefore, knowledge of basic characteristics of MPI radiotracers is essential for optimal clinical use of these agents. This chapter reviews the most important characteristics of various single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) radiopharmaceuticals that are used in clinical practice.
