The Foundations of Nuclear Cardiology

Nuclear cardiology is considered to be an integral part of the evaluation and treatment planning for patients with known or suspected cardiac disease. Although the pace of technologic advances has rapidly increased in the last several decades, the roots of the subspecialty were established more than 50 years ago. Nuclear cardiology techniques have been used in the clinical practice of cardiology for more than 40 years and there is a strong physiologic basis to support this field.
