Introducing Industrial Design Concept to High School Students Through Innovative Graphic Engineering Techniques

摘要

This paper presents an innovative methodology for introducing high school students with basic knowledge of graphic expression to the concept of design, utilizing innovative industrial technologies and tools applied to the educational field, such as 3D modeling, virtual reality, and additive manufacturing. The project involved a group of high school students who were tasked with selecting a design part of their choice and creating a graphical description and sketch with basic measurements. Next, the students used CAD software to create a 3D model of the design part, expanding their knowledge and understanding of design concept. Then two prototype versions of the 3D geometry: one using virtual reality technology and another using 3D additive manufacturing through fused deposition modeling (FDM) technique are created. This approach provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the design process, from the initial sketch to the creation of a tangible product, all while utilizing innovative graphic techniques. The methodology was assessed through surveys completed by the students to measure their learning outcomes and the effectiveness of the approach. Results showed significant improvements in students’ knowledge, as well as their overall understanding of the design process. In conclusion, this paper presents an effective methodology for high school students with basic knowledge of graphic expression. The integration of innovative graphic techniques provides students with a comprehensive learning experience that improves their spatial thinking, problem-solving skills, and engagement with the subject matter.
