Adapting Graphic Expression Subjects to New Professional Contexts. The Case of Bachelor’s Degree with Defense Profile

This paper presents the different activities, proposals and teaching innovations that have been developed to adapt the subject of Graphic Expression and Computer Aided Design to the new Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Organisational Engineering, Defense profile (Army officers), from its initial approach to the present. Since there were no clear reference precedents, it was originally decided to use a more or less classical methodology and syllabus adapted to the circumstances. Gradually, didactic intervention strategies have been developed based on three fundamental challenges: the adaptation of the course to the student profile; the incorporation of new teaching methodologies focused on the student; and the integration of new technologies. In addition, the paper also includes a series of reflections and lessons learned from the teaching team that can be considered in the development of similar subjects in other university studies. The most relevant points are: adjusting the subject to the needs of the student improves the teaching-learning process; teaching innovations should be introduced progressively; the advantages offered by new technologies should exploit; the materials created should be accompanied by some activity that requires the student to adopt a more active role; and, sometimes, the benefits of innovations should not be quantified exclusively in terms of the number of students who have passed the course.
