Design and Assembly of a Shielded Enclosure for Industrial Radiology Using Mixlead® Material

Staring from the need to reinforce radiological protection guidelines in the field of industrial radiography, as shielded, portable, and modular enclosure is designed to accompany operators in radiographic inspection tasks as a barrier against ionizing radiation. The construction procedures of the enclosure and the manufacturing of the shielded panels used for its construction and use are presented. The enclosure consists of a supporting structure composed of a series of profiles that serve as a guide for the assembly of modular panels that make up the walls of the enclosure. These panels are formed by the union of a series of individual shielded panels constructed of a composite material made from recycled sources, called Mixlead®, forming a sandwich structure. This paper describes an invention concerns the composition of the aforementioned shielded panels, the structure of the enclosure and its construction procedures, as well as the particular uses of both the enclosure and the shielded panels.
