Design Methodology for Country Road Rehabilitation

The Río Tinto Company Limited, owner of the mines, closed in 1954. The company changed into Spanish ownership. The Río Tinto Mining Railway continued operating until 1964, because of the construction of the Chemical complex built in Huelva. Since then, and due to that the ore was no longer shipped to England, it became more profitable to transport it by truck. The line was definitively closed on February 8, 1984. Thus, it meant the end of the history of the Río Tinto Mining Railway, which during its entire history is estimated to have transported 150 million metric tons of pyrite. Due to the extraordinary existing potential, and to promote and develop rural and hiking tourism for the Citizens, the use of the platform, to a large extent, created for the construction of the railway and adapt it to a multimodal route, free of vehicles, is designed. Engine, to serve as a place of recreation and leisure. That platform that was built for transport, will now become a multimodal path for cycling, hiking, running, etcetera. This work analyses the design and implementation process to rehabilitate a bridge and nearby areas as a part of the rehabilitation of a country road from an old railroad. This study focuses on analysing the most relevant facts of its construction and operation. The study describes the necessary works to be carried out. The compound of information allows to design a methodological guide for works framed in the same thematic.
