Nurturing Changemakers: Harnessing the Power of Service-Learning Pedagogy for Transformational Creativity

  • Ophélie A. Desmet

摘要

This chapter examines the significance of promoting transformational creativity within K–16 educational settings and provides practical strategies for cultivating and evaluating this form of creativity in the classroom. Transformational creativity is defined as the production of creative ideas or solutions that extend beyond individual considerations and instead prioritize collective welfare. These creators strive to balance the interests of all parties involved while upholding positive ethical values and considering both short- and long-term impacts. Key elements of transformational creativity include perspective-taking, empathy, and compassion. Consequently, effective promotion of transformational creativity necessitates learning activities that foster creative thinking skills and cultivate perspective-taking, empathy, and compassion. This chapter underscores the importance of service-learning pedagogy and other experiential learning approaches as essential components of transformational creativity education.
