This chapter offers a comprehensive exploration of IGAD’s economic and security regionalism in the Horn of Africa, particularly concerning its intervention in the Somali conflict. It emphasizes the necessity of a systematic and clear understanding of regional integration for a holistic discourse. The chapter contextualizes regional integration by examining its historical and contemporary dimensions and establishes a link between Pan-Africanism and regional initiatives in Africa. It highlights the importance of studying regional integration in a broader global context, including Europe and beyond. This approach enhances the understanding of regional integration processes and their significance in promoting peace and development in the Horn of Africa.
