Origins of Online Travel Agencies
摘要
The expansion of the Internet has had a major impact on bookings made through the online indirect channel and supplier direct websites. This chapter explores the key milestones in the evolution of online travel that led to the rise of online travel agencies (OTAs) and direct consumer channels. It delves into topics such as OTA air bookings, the relationship between OTAs and global distribution systems, and the various sources of revenue for the OTAs from an air perspective. Furthermore, it reviews the growth of OTAs through mergers and acquisitions. The chapter concludes by examining the infrastructure of OTAs and their role within the travel industry.
