A BRIEF POSTLUDE

Closing with an author who is more eager to defend vested interests (if needed by inconsistent arguments) than to scrutinize their nature, their origins, their causes, or their effects; who does not really understand the notation he introduces; who overlooks the good points he could have made even for his own intended purpose – and who nonetheless is a most respected figure in the historiography of his science: this may seem a sad way to end a history of scientific thinking.
