Mathematics Education for Children with Critical and Terminal Illness
摘要
In this chapter, we address the need for research focusing on the mathematics education of children with critical and terminal illness. Aside from making it more transparent why these learners deserve particular attention within research and practice, this chapter uses Amartya Sen’s capability approach as a theoretical framework well suited to the phenomenon at hand. We close with a call for research, using the capability approach, posing a provocative question to the mathematics education community: What mathematics is needed to live a life freely and with dignity?
