Corpora as a Reference Resource in Data-Driven Learning
摘要
A corpus is an electronic database of texts gathered from a variety of disciplines and genres in written and spoken registers for a common purpose to analyse a language. Corpora provide much more information than traditional resources for language teachers and learners. They may be used as a reference resource in data-driven learning (DDL) in a direct way by learners themselves or in an indirect way with a help of a teacher or by using ready-to-use corpus-based materials. Two unquestionably beneficial aspects of corpus consultation are the actuality and authenticity of language data. Contemporary studies continue to explore corpus consultation, with a growing emphasis on user-friendly tools and ready-to-use materials. They have shown that corpus consultation positively influences non-native language production. Recent trends also indicate an increasing interest in corpus consultation for languages other than English. However, a noticeable obstacle is a corpus consultation underuse by language teachers. Future advancements should prioritize the normalization of corpus consultation as a reference resource, enhancing accessibility and efficacy for a broader spectrum of users.
