This encyclopaedia entry discusses qualitative designs in data-driven learning (DDL) research. After a brief introduction to DDL and qualitative research methods, the authors consider what qualitative designs offer researchers in this area. More specifically, they discuss research designs, methods and topics associated with DDL research on three primary areas: learning attitudes and learning experiences, instructor attitudes and corpus literacy. Recent studies which demonstrate the potential of qualitative perspectives in DDL research are highlighted and discussed as illustrative examples. Overall, qualitative methods and designs have allowed for more longitudinal and introspective insights into learning and teaching language with DDL.
