Genre Awareness and Data-Driven Learning
摘要
This encyclopaedia entry introduces readers to data-driven learning (DDL) research that has investigated issues involving the development of second language (L2) learners’ genre awareness. The piece begins by defining key terms, which include both DDL and genre awareness. Next, readers are introduced to some of the most common foci involved in DDL studies of genre awareness. Such studies have typically focused on L2 English learner populations, and the extent to which DDL influences these learners’ awareness of rhetorical moves and formulaic features of written academic genres. Lastly, the piece concludes with a discussion of common methods involved in DDL research on genre awareness. This discussion covers common design trends in such research, including longitudinal data collection and genre analysis components, as well as common sources of data, including surveys and student writing.
